This article will give an outline to the tasks which should be performed in each month and what plants should be prepared.

January
- Add manure/compost to the soil when not frozen
- Chit seed potatoes
- Place seed order
- Burn woody rubbish and use ash in leaf mould for sowing seeds.
- Inspect all vegetables in store and protect with straw if necessary.
- Plan the Garden!
- If you have shletered area facing south and the soil is well drained and cumbly make some sowings of early peas and broad beans. Cloches will protect these.
- Plant shallots

February
- Manure and compost the soil more
- Prepare seed beds
- Chit seed potatoes
- Thin overwintered onions
- Sow; peas, short-horn carrots, lettuce, summer cabbage, sprouts, jerusalem artichokes, broad beans, and parsnip & beetroot later in the month.
